The PSD candidate for governor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, was questioned during an interview by CBN and the newspapers O Globo, Extra and Valor about what his administration's police operations would look like. During the interview, the candidate listed a series of measures for the public security area.
Paes defended a speech against the ADPF das Favelas and stated that he intends to remove crime from within the Guanabara Palace and remove politics from the police. He highlighted that public security is a state function and advocated for the reunification of the Public Security Secretariat, in addition to presenting a territorial occupation plan.
The PSD candidate stated that he will begin territory retaking at Complexo do Salgueiro, in São Gonçalo. According to Paes, São Gonçalo has almost 50% of its territory taken over by organized crime and the Parallel Power, with the city's geographic position, near Guanabara Bay and BR-101, being one of the most severe cases in the region.
Paes acknowledged that the state capital draws more attention, but stated that he is not minimizing the situation in Rio, citing Complexo da Chapeuzinho Vermelho, Penha-Alemão and Vila Aliança. He added that he knows the capital like the back of his hand.
