ANAREC — National Association of Fuel Retailers — accused the Portuguese Government of "lying" to the Portuguese and demanded more oversight in the fuel sector. The association warned about the high tax burden on fuels in Portugal, comparing it with the situation in Spain.
According to ANAREC, in one euro of diesel, 60 cents correspond to taxes. The association noted that in Spain this situation does not occur in the same way, suggesting that Portuguese consumers pay significantly more in taxes than Spanish consumers.
The organization demanded greater oversight by the authorities to ensure transparency and fairness in fuel prices. This accusation comes in a context of growing concern among consumers and sector operators with the competitiveness of prices in Portugal compared to the neighboring country.
