Fuel retailers accuse the Government of "lying" to the Portuguese and demand a tax reduction on fuels. The accusation comes at a time of strong pressure on fuel prices in Portugal.
The president of ANAREC, João Durão, is the main voice of this demand. He points out that in one euro of diesel, 60 cents correspond to taxes, which represents a very high tax burden on this product.
João Durão compares the Portuguese situation with the Spanish one, stating that "in Spain none of this happens," suggesting that our Iberian neighbors manage to offer fuels at more accessible prices to consumers.
Fuel retailers thus unite in a joint appeal to the executive to take measures for tax reduction, considering that the current tax burden is unsustainable for Portuguese consumers.
