The judicial proceedings filed to stop the construction of the Pisão Dam, in Crato, have been returned to the Administrative and Fiscal Court of Castelo Branco by higher courts due to procedural errors. The president of CIMAA, Joaquim Diogo, stated that the judge is preparing to hear residents, technicians, and witnesses. Construction works have been suspended since May, after the Central Southern Administrative Court ruled in favour of four environmental associations. In parallel, CIMAA proceeded with the signing of a 14.6 million euro contract for the hydraulic infrastructure work to supply water to the Póvoa e Meadas Water Treatment Plant, a project it considers can proceed as it has its own environmental impact statement. The overall project, valued at over 220 million euros, will occupy 10,000 hectares and involves the submersion of the village of Pisão.
