José Manuel Castro Lopes is the new Student Ombudsman of the University of Porto. The appointment was announced by the REIT (Rector's Office) and succeeds Carlos Costa in the role.

José Castro Lopes is a professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP) and former vice-rector of U.Porto. He was part of the last two rector's teams at the university before taking on the new role.

The role of Student Ombudsman is responsible for defending and promoting the rights and interests of the institution's students. It is a role of proximity with the student body.
