The Regional Electoral Court of Rio rules this Friday on the registration of Anthony Garotinho's candidacy for governor of the state. In conversations with allies, the former governor shows pessimism and believes the court will reject his registration request.
On July 27, the TRE prohibited Garotinho, candidate from Republicanos, from receiving resources from the electoral and party funds, in addition to preventing his propaganda on radio and television. The judges understood that he would have his political rights suspended due to a conviction for administrative improbity related to facts from the years 2005 and 2006.
The day after the TRE's decision, Minister Floriano de Azevedo Marques, from the Superior Electoral Court, suspended the decision and authorized the former governor to campaign, allowing his temporary stay in the race.
If defeated this Friday, Garotinho intends to follow the same previous path and appeal to the TSE to try to remain in the race for the Governor's Palace.
