A 28-year-old Italian ambulance driver, identified as Luca Spada, is accused of killing an 85-year-old patient by injecting air into her veins during a hospital transport. The elderly woman, Deanna Mambelli, died on November 25, 2025, while being transported by ambulance. According to the investigation, the suspect allegedly deliberately injected a lethal amount of air into the patient's bloodstream, causing an embolism that blocked blood flow and led to death.
Spada will be tried starting October 15 at the Court of Forlì for this death. He denies all the accusations. In addition to Mambelli's case, authorities are investigating whether the paramedic was involved in the deaths of five other people: Mirella Montanari, Francesco Mario Scavone, Edoarda Gasperini, Vincenzo Pesci, and Vittorio Benini, which may have occurred in a similar manner.
