Two police officers from the Rato station, in Lisbon, suspected of crimes of torture and rape, began today to give statements in the first session of their trial. The proceedings are taking place behind closed doors.
The defendants' statements have not yet concluded, according to Filipa Duarte Gonçalves, lawyer for one of the two accused police officers.
The defense lawyer stated that the two police officers are giving statements in order to establish the material truth and collaborate with the court.
The next session of the trial is scheduled for a date not yet specified in the article.
