The Central Hospital of Luanda is investigating a serious case of alleged medical error, after the amputation of the arm of a patient who only had complaints in a leg. The incident generated indignation and raised questions about the safety of healthcare provided at the hospital unit.

The doctor responsible for the case was suspended from duties while investigations are ongoing. The suspension aims to ascertain the circumstances that led to this incorrect surgical procedure and determine any professional responsibilities.

The Angolan health authorities are analyzing the patient's clinical file to understand how the exchange of the limb to be amputated occurred. The case is being treated as potential medical negligence that resulted in a serious and irreversible harm to the patient.
