107 years ago, on September 10, 1919, a serious accident with the train of the Monte Railway Company tragically marked the history of the parish of Monte, in Funchal. During the ascent, the boiler of one of the locomotives exploded, causing four dead and several injured among the passengers and workers on board. The accident was marked as one of the most tragic transportation disasters in the Madeira Region. This episode represented the end of the train of the Monte Railway Company, closing an important chapter in the history of transportation on the island.
