INEM technicians' strike called off

The INEM technicians' strike was called off after an agreement was reached with the Government. The strike was scheduled for the 14th and 28th of the current month.

The union president, Rui Lázaro, announced the decision to journalists. The cancellation of the strike comes as a result of negotiations between the union and the executive.

With the cancellation, the strikes that were scheduled for the two days of this month are cancelled, putting an end to the standoff between INEM technicians and the Ministry.

Coimbra Municipal Assembly approves elevation of Eiras to town status

The Coimbra Municipal Assembly unanimously approved a deliberation requesting the elevation of the settlement of Eiras to the category of town, a process that will now proceed to the Assembly of the Republic. The proposal, presented by the president of the Union of Parishes of Eiras and São Paulo de Frades, is based on the historical recognition of Eiras, which was a municipal seat until 1836, having its own administrative structures such as a town hall and registry office. The settlement, with more than 12 thousand inhabitants and which included business areas, commercial zones and school and health facilities, also has as testimony the fountain of Terreiro da Fonte, built in 1743. The Division of Support to Parishes of the Coimbra City Council confirmed that the legal requirements for historical recognition are met, under Law No. 24/2024.
