The Minister of Education announced that, starting from the 2027/2028 school year, a pilot project to merge the 1st and 2nd cycles of basic education will take place in an extended group of schools across the country. This measure aims to reorganize the structure of basic education, combining the former 1st cycle (1st to 4th grade) with the 2nd cycle (5th and 6th grades).
Parents have expressed support for the merger of cycles, but emphasized the need to proceed "with great caution." The Parents' Association considered it important to carefully weigh the impacts of this reorganization before implementing it.
Guardians also mentioned that the merger must be accompanied by specific conditions. Among the main concerns are human resources, physical infrastructure, and the pedagogical support for students during this transition.
The pilot project will cover a significant number of schools across the national territory, allowing for the evaluation of the results of this reorganization before any potential expansion to the entire country.
