Business owners request AdC analysis of air fares to the Azores. Round trip can cost up to 500 euros

The Ponta Delgada Chamber of Commerce and Industry has requested the Competition Authority to analyze the competitive conditions on air routes between the mainland and the Azores, where round-trip fares can exceed 500 euros. The business association found that the lowest fare classes are not regularly available, even when searches are performed well in advance, and points to a concentration of supply at significantly higher levels. CCIPD does not assert the existence of collusion, but considers that Ryanair's exit, combined with the TAP and Azores Airlines code-share agreement, justifies a thorough analysis. The association also warns that prices on routes to the Azores are about double the values charged on the Lisbon-Funchal route, affecting the archipelago's tourism competitiveness.
