A large-scale fire destroyed 42 shacks in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, in northern Africa, forcing the evacuation of hundreds of migrants who lived there. The flames consumed the makeshift structures in a short space of time, leaving many people homeless.

Firefighters were called to the scene and remained deployed for several hours to combat the flames and control the situation. Police forces also rushed to the area to ensure the safety of the emergency personnel and facilitate the firefighting operations.

Local authorities had to manage an emergency situation with a high number of affected people, many of them in a vulnerable migratory situation. The incident caused major material damage and put at risk the physical integrity of the occupants of the residential area affected.
