Public Security Police (PSP) data for the first half of 2026 reveals concerning numbers about road accidents in Portugal. In just six months, 29 thousand accidents were recorded on Portuguese roads, resulting in 44 dead.
In addition to accidents and deaths, PSP data also identifies 5 thousand cases of excess alcohol during this period. This situation reflects the high levels of driving under the influence of alcohol on the country's roads.
The overwhelming majority of arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol significantly contributed to these numbers. Almost three thousand drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol during the first half of 2026, according to PSP data.
