Grindr, the world's largest LGBTQIA+ dating app, went offline on Wednesday (9) due to high user activity. The app outage coincided with the start of the midterm Republican National Convention in Dallas, Texas.
The Republican Party, known as the most conservative in the United States, was holding the event at the American Airlines Center, the arena used by the NBA's Dallas Mavericks, right before Donald Trump's speech.
According to Downdetector, the app registered multiple interruptions at the moment the conservative event was beginning. The highest number of failure reports was concentrated in the Dallas area and surroundings, indicating that the concentration of users in the city was the factor responsible for the overload.
The convention also drew attention for displaying on the arena's big screen a photo of left-wing political streamer and commentator Hasan Piker posing in only his underwear, a moment that became widely discussed on social media during the event.
