Madeira was the scene of two earthquakes last Monday, recorded by the region's Information and Seismological Monitoring Centre. The tremors were felt by the local population.
The first earthquake, with a magnitude of 2.4 on the Richter scale, was recorded north of Porto Santo. This tremor was the more intense of the two recorded.
The second earthquake occurred near Ponta de São Lourenço, with a magnitude of 1.6. This was a lower intensity tremor compared to the first.
Both earthquakes are part of the region's normal seismic activity, which is frequently affected by small earthquakes due to its geographical location.
