There are still 1250 full schedules to be filled for the return to school, Education Minister reveals

RTP Notícias11 September 2026 at 11:20

Education Minister Fernando Alexandre revealed in an interview with RTP Antena 1 that there are still 1250 full schedules to be filled for the return to school. This number refers to full work positions that have not yet been filled in Portuguese schools.

When combined with incomplete schedules, the total number of unfilled schedules is around 2500, a figure that is in line with the latest assessment made by the minister on the situation. These data show that the process of hiring and assigning teachers and staff to schools has not yet been fully completed.

Fernando Alexandre also stated that he expects to have a new autonomy model for schools next school year. This reform is one of the ministry's priorities to improve the management and organization of educational institutions.
