Emma Bonino, one of the most relevant political and social figures in contemporary Italy, has died. In addition to her work as an activist defending women's rights, Bonino was a career politician with important institutional positions.
Emma Bonino served as Italy's Minister of Foreign Affairs and also held the position of European Commissioner, where she was responsible for Consumer Policy and Fisheries portfolios.
Her most internationally recognized action was leading the campaign for the legalization of abortion in Italy, having contributed decisively to achieving this right in the country.
