Taylor Swift already has a genus (and four species) of insects

A new genus of Australian herbivorous insects, previously unknown to science, received a name inspired by Taylor Swift. Four species of this genus were also named in reference to the albums of the American singer. This entomological tribute is leaving the swifties, Taylor Swift's fans, extremely happy.

Sarah Schroeder, a PhD student in entomology at the University of California in Riverside, is responsible for this naming. She hopes the tribute to the singer will help draw attention to these insects and also to their conservation. Schroeder states she has been a swiftie forever, considering the naming a genuine form of tribute to Taylor.

Taylor Swift thus joins other celebrities who already have species or genera of animals named after them, a method used by the scientific community to recognize public figures while also raising public awareness of biodiversity and the need to protect it.

Scientists develop yeast and gelatin-based formula to 3D print houses on Mars

Chinese scientists developed a formula for 3D printing houses on Mars using a mixture of Martian rocks with gelatin and terrestrial yeast that, when exposed to extreme cold and low pressure on the planet, hardens and generates a living construction material as resistant as concrete. The method, detailed in the journal Chem Circularity, allows building colonies on Mars without the need to transport heavy materials and would save energy, unlike previous proposals that required heating and melting rocks. The tested structures are small domes of about 45 mm, but the material is resistant enough for one or two-story buildings on Earth, and would be even more resistant on Mars. Furthermore, the yeast can be recovered and reused, enabling a circular economy on the red planet, although it has not yet been tested under real Martian conditions.

A study conducted in China with 826 full-time workers, aged between 22 and 40 years, between 2022 and 2024, identified a strong association between high levels of work stress and erectile dysfunction.
