The larvae of the Meloe proscarabaeus beetle have developed a sophisticated strategy to propagate themselves. These larvae cluster on plants and emit aromas that mimic the smell of flowers, thus attracting unsuspecting bees.

When a bee lands on the plant, the larvae take the opportunity to attach themselves to the insect's body. The bee's body ends up functioning as a transport vehicle for the parasites.

This chemical camouflage technique allows the beetle larvae to reach bee nests, where they find a suitable environment to complete their development. The process represents an example of parasitism that depends entirely on the larvae's ability to deceive through floral aromas.
