The "Alma Calipolense" Children's Group presented a show at Largo dos Capuchos in Vila Viçosa on Thursday night, September 10, marking the beginning of the Festas dos Capuchos. The children's performance combined music, choreography, and different rhythms, transforming the space into a festive atmosphere even before the official start of the celebrations.
The project was born in 2025 through the municipal ATL Férias Divertidas program, initially having a strong connection to Alentejo singing. This year, however, the group expanded its repertoire and also embraced the unique identity of the Festas dos Capuchos, presenting songs adapted to the celebration and other rhythms, as explained by councilor Mónica Lobo.
The performance could become a tradition associated with the start of Capuchos. The mayor noted that the children will begin to be "a landmark at the kickoff of Capuchos," assuming a central role in opening the festivities and showing that the continuity of traditions is also built through new generations.
The highlight of the performance was the song about the centuries-old Capuchos festivals. The children's performance preceded the Capuchos Night Walk, which brought together approximately 500 registered participants, although organizers admit that attendance was higher.
