Fado singer Rodrigo, 85 years old, is the honoree of the 14th edition of the Caixa Alfama Festival, which kicks off today in Lisbon. The festival, considered "the largest fado festival in the world," features ten stages spread across the Alfama neighborhood, including churches, cultural associations and the Museum of Fado. Today's program includes the tribute to Rodrigo with the participation of Ricardo Ribeiro and Katia Guerreiro, as well as performances by artists such as Raquel Tavares, António Pinto Basto and Hélder Moutinho. On Saturday, the final day, Carminho, Filipa Cardoso, Gonçalo Salgueiro, among others, perform. Rodrigo, with over half a century of career and 40 albums released, stated he considers himself "a singer of fados, but also a singer of stories," emphasizing the importance of not forgetting fado's roots. This year's edition has a budget of 400,000 euros, with support from Caixa Geral de Depósitos and EGEAC.
