The immigration topic has dominated the electoral campaign in Sweden, which holds elections on Sunday. Portuguese residents in three major Swedish cities expressed concern about the growing divisions in the country related to this issue.
Sofia Silva, a 54-year-old Portuguese woman who works at the Swedish National Agency for Education, expressed her deep concern. According to her, in recent months there have been many changes in the education sector, and she would like these to be the most important topics in the campaign, but in reality it is immigration that dominates the public debate.
Sofia immigrated to Sweden over 20 years ago and currently holds a Swedish passport. Her long-standing experience in the Nordic country contrasts with the current political scenario, in which anti-immigration rhetoric has gained significant prominence in the pre-electoral period.
