The main objective of the study is to value the specificity of those who decide to train and work in the interior of Portugal. The Order recognizes that health professionals who choose these areas face particular challenges that should be recognized and compensated.
The plan suggests the creation of affiliation centers that allow interior doctors to maintain connections to reference institutions. This measure could help reduce the feeling of professional isolation and maintain the quality of healthcare provided in the most remote areas.
The proposed measures arise in a context of growing inequality in access to healthcare between the coast and the interior of the country. The Order of Physicians thus intends to create more attractive conditions to retain and attract professionals willing to work outside the major population centers.
