September 11: 25 years ago, the world stopped. And it was never the same again

25 years ago, four commercial airplanes were turned into weapons in one of the most striking terrorist attacks in history. Nearly 3,000 people lost their lives on September 11, 2001, when aircraft were hijacked and redirected against targets in the United States.

The attack paralyzed the entire world that day. The images of the falling twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington were broadcast live to billions of people, becoming one of the most traumatic moments in contemporary history.

Since then, the world has never been the same. The United States launched the so-called "War on Terror," invading Afghanistan and Iraq, and implementing drastic security measures in airports and public spaces around the globe.

This text marks the Silver Anniversary, that is, 25 years since that September 11 that forever changed world geopolitics, migration policies, and the security perception of international society.
