Jornal C – O Caminhense11 September 2026 at 09:39

The Municipality of Caminha has completed the first phase of installing shelters for stray cat colonies in the municipality. Four structures were placed in three localities: Caminha, Moledo, and Vila Praia de Âncora.

The initiative is part of the municipal strategy for animal welfare and public health. The shelters are intended for stray cat colonies that are monitored under the CED program, which consists of Trap, Neuter, and Return the animals to their original territory.

This first phase represents a significant step in the implementation of the municipality's animal protection policies, simultaneously contributing to the control of stray cat populations and the promotion of public health in the region.

The annual ceremony at Ground Zero will feature, for the first time, a seventh minute of silence to honor the thousands of first responders and survivors who died from illnesses caused by the toxic dust from September 11. Nearly 25 years after the attacks, pathologies associated with the inhalation of fumes and debris from the World Trade Center have already caused more deaths than the attacks themselves.
