Marcela Schneider, a 46-year-old university professor from São Paulo, is one of the K-pop fans over 40 who will be present at Rock in Rio during the day dedicated to the musical genre. She attended the event precisely on the day of her oldest daughter's 16th birthday, making the celebration a shared moment between mother and daughter. Marcela promises to compete for space with Generation Z on the lawn of the City of Rock to watch the headliner group Stray Kids.
Different from what many imagine, Marcela claims to have always been reticent about boy bands. She says that at home she was more into rock, although in her adolescence she liked New Kids on the Block. According to her, she never had typical fan behavior, such as buying products related to the artists. However, everything changed when she discovered Stray Kids through her daughter.
Currently, Marcela decorates her bag with pins and little figurines of the eight guys that make up Stray Kids, demonstrating an engagement that she herself did not expect to develop. She is part of a large, but seldom remembered, group of K-pop fans over 40 who have been gaining space in the Brazilian music scene and events like Rock in Rio.
