The most recent Quaest polls in the states indicate that the Senate may have the largest female election in its history in 2026. The analysis was carried out by political scientist Murilo Medeiros, from the University of Brasília (UnB), based on data from the institute. The survey shows that 15 women are currently in a favorite position in the race for one of the two seats in the House up for grabs in each state, while another 14 have competitive candidacies, covering names from both the left and the right.
If at least ten candidates are elected to the Senate in October, Brazil will match the level of the 2014 election, which recorded the highest proportionality of women elevated to the House, with 18.5% of the seats. On that occasion, five of the 27 senators elected were women.
The record forecast occurs in a context of heated dispute between various candidates. In Bahia, the state PL president was ignored by his party colleague in a list of nominations to the Senate, while in Ceará, candidates Elmano and Ciro had a heated exchange during a debate, with exchanges of jabs between "lower your finger" and "you're going to be stuck in your face."
