One of Princess Diana's most famous dresses will be auctioned again nearly 30 years after it was first put up for sale. Created by designer Christina Stambolian, the black dress became known as the "Revenge Dress" and will be offered by Sotheby's in New York on December 9, with a sales estimate between $150,000 and $300,000, which corresponds to approximately R$770,000 to R$1.5 million.
The piece became historic due to a historical coincidence: on the same night Diana wore the dress publicly, an interview was broadcast in which her then-husband, Prince Charles, admitted to having been unfaithful during the marriage and confirmed his relationship with Camilla Parker-Bowles. This moment made the dress a symbol of the princess's strength and independence.
In June 1994, Diana attended a party hosted by Vanity Fair at the Serpentine Gallery in London, wearing exactly this creation by Christina Stambolian. The choice of the dress for that specific evening ended up giving the piece a significance that transcended fashion, transforming it into a cultural and historical landmark.
