An Israeli opposition member announced on Thursday that he had filed a complaint against Sara Netanyahu, wife of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for spreading a conspiracy theory according to which political opponent Yair Golan knew that Hamas would carry out the attack on October 7, 2023.
The accusation against Sara Netanyahu arose after a televised interview in late August, in which she implied that opposition member Yair Golan had prior knowledge of Hamas's attack plan. Yair Golan is a former general who leads the left-wing party "The Democrats."
The case occurs amid the campaign for the legislative elections on October 27, in a country deeply divided and traumatized by the October 7 massacre, considered the worst attack on Israeli soil. Benjamin Netanyahu is also facing criticism following reports that he ignored a warning from the United Arab Emirates about the attack.
