Seven structures of the GNR and PSP demand meeting with minister and threaten protest

SAPO Notícias10 September 2026 at 17:25

Seven structures of the Portuguese security forces demanded today from the Minister of Internal Administration an urgent meeting to discuss the allocation of a risk subsidy identical to that granted to the Judicial Police. The maximum deadline requested for the meeting was one week.

The entities that made this demand include four associations of the Republican National Guard (GNR) and three unions of the Public Security Police (PSP). These organizations represent the two main police corps in Portugal.

The demand for a risk subsidy similar to that of the PJ arises in the context of labor claims for better working conditions and compensation for the risks associated with the performance of policing duties.

Should the meeting not take place within the established deadline or their claims not be met, the seven structures threaten protest actions.

Fux gives 15 days for the Union, Central Bank and FGC to respond about guarantee of billions in aid to BRB

Justice Luiz Fux, from the Federal Supreme Court, gave a 15-day deadline for the Union, the Central Bank and the Credit Guarantee Fund to respond about the request from the Federal District Government to compel the federal government to guarantee a 6.6 billion reais loan to BRB, after the billion-dollar shortfall caused by the failed attempt to purchase Banco Master. In the decision, Fux highlighted the "complexity and peculiarities" of the case. After the responses, the case will be sent to the PGR before returning to the justice for analysis of the urgency request. The GDF claims that three months after the agreement made at the STF, the Union has not yet taken the necessary measures to make the loan viable.
