PS Deputy José Carlos Barbosa has filed a complaint against Rui Paulo Sousa, chairman of the Transparency Committee. The complaint will now proceed to parliamentary review, awaiting a decision on the case.
Rui Paulo Sousa is also a Chega Deputy, a far-right party in Portugal. The complaint filed by the Socialist raises questions about his performance of his duties as head of the Transparency Committee.
The President of the Assembly of the Republic, considering the powers vested in him, stated that he does not have the authority to order the preventive suspension of Rui Paulo Sousa, leaving the decision in the hands of the parliamentary process.
The case arises in a context of political tension between the two parties, with the PS using the mechanisms available to question the conduct of a Chega Deputy who holds an ethical oversight position in parliament.
