Portuguese tourists in Brazil increased 25% by July 2026, totaling approximately 178,000 visitors, representing a growth of 24.9% compared to the same period in 2025. This increase allowed Portugal to overtake France and become, for the first time in ten years, the largest European emitting market for Brazil, according to the CEO of Embratur, Bruno Reis.
Brazil received 5,874,981 foreign tourists between January and July 2026. This performance reflects the importance of connectivity between the two countries and results from Embratur's commercial strategy, adopted under the Plan Brasis for international marketing and promotion. TAP, which celebrates in 2026 the 60th anniversary of the first regular flight between Lisbon and Rio de Janeiro, operates to 15 destinations in Brazil, in 10 states exclusively, and is the European leader in that market.
In 2025, Brazil received 9.3 million foreign tourists, a record number and 37.1% higher than in 2024, far exceeding the target of 6.9 million set for the year. The number of Portuguese tourists that year reached 273,483, the highest recorded since 2007, with a growth of over 25% compared to 2024. TAP transported more than 2.2 million passengers between the two continents in 2025.
Brazil is investing in cultural campaigns, especially in music and audiovisual, to continue attracting Portuguese tourists, in a year when it expects to receive up to 300,000 visitors from Portugal, a new all-time high. The Chairman of TAP's Board of Directors, Carlos Oliveira, reiterated the strategic importance of Brazil as a destination the company intends to continue developing.
