Portugal is getting ready for a weekend of sunny weather and rising temperatures, with the mainland and Madeira benefiting from typically summer conditions. According to Meteored, the anticyclone will continue to dominate in these territories, favouring clear or partly cloudy skies and ruling out any scenario of significant rainfall. On Friday, maximum temperatures will vary between 23 degrees in Viana do Castelo and Aveiro and 34 degrees in Évora and Beja, rising progressively to 37 degrees in Beja on Sunday.
The Azores will be the exception, with a cold front associated with a low pressure system crossing the Western and Central groups in the early hours of Friday. The rain will be light and scattered throughout the weekend, possibly returning on Saturday to the same groups, with the possibility of isolated showers in the Eastern group as well. On Sunday, precipitation could extend in the Western group until late afternoon, although no significant temperature changes are expected, which will fluctuate between 24 and 29 degrees.
In Madeira, the weather will be similar to the mainland, with the possibility of light, scattered rain on the north coast during Friday's early hours, but with rapid dissipation of cloud cover. Funchal could reach 29 degrees on Sunday, following the upward thermal trend observed in the rest of the country.
A less usual phenomenon for this time of year relates to temperatures in the North of the mainland, where localities closest to the coastal strip may record higher values than some inland areas of the same region. The atmospheric stability should hold in both Madeira and the mainland at least until the beginning of next week.
