Brussels prepares renewable energy reform for post-2030, as grids struggle to keep pace

The European Commission is preparing a renewable energy reform for the post-2030 period, at a time when the commitment to clean energy continues to grow in the European Union.

The EU co-legislators, namely the European Parliament and the Council, are currently working to resolve one of the biggest obstacles to new clean energy projects — electricity grids.

Electricity distribution grids are struggling to keep pace with the rapid implementation of new renewable energy projects, which constitutes a significant challenge for European climate objectives.

ERSAR publishes regulation to harmonize water tariff rules

The Regulatory Entity for Water and Waste Services (ERSAR) published the Tariff Regulation for Water Services (RTA), which aims to harmonize the rules for setting water tariffs in Portugal. The regulation establishes binding rules for the tariff schedules of water supply and sanitation services, creating a common reference framework for all state and municipal management entities. The objective is to ensure the balance between economic accessibility for users and efficient cost recovery for services, reinforcing transparency and predictability in tariff setting. The regulation enters into force in 30 days, with a transition period until January 1, 2029 for adaptation of tariff structures.
