Inflation retreats but remains high

dnoticias.pt10 September 2026 at 15:10

Inflation in Madeira retreated in August, registering a drop of 0.6 percentage points compared to July. Despite the improvement, the year-on-year variation of the Consumer Price Index remained high, settling at 4.1%.

The responsible for this positive evolution is José Manuel Rodrigues, regional secretary for the Economy. The official considered that the drop is an encouraging sign, mainly because it opposes what was verified at the national level.

According to José Manuel Rodrigues, Madeiran inflation went against the national growth trend. While the region registered a reduction, the rest of the country followed an upward trajectory.

The article also mentions that, despite the retreat, inflation in Madeira remains at high levels, which keeps concerns regarding the cost of living in the autonomous region.
