The city of Coimbra experienced significant transformations today on Rua da Sofia, one of its main arteries, with the implementation of new mobility measures that provoked mixed feelings and many doubts among residents and users of the road.
The most visible intervention was the creation of a lane reserved exclusively for buses and loading and unloading vehicles, which was narrowed and delimited by flower beds, making the space more pleasant but also more limited.
This change left many citizens with questions about the viability of the new rules and the impact on daily life in the area, generating a debate about the adequacy of the measures implemented in the district capital.
Rua da Sofia, which previously had more intense traffic flow, is now quieter, a direct result of the changes that aim to give priority to public transport and reduce car traffic in that historic area of the city.
