Lagoa reinforces firefighters' response capacity with 970 thousand euro investment

Jornal do Algarve10 September 2026 at 12:10

The Lagoa Fire Brigade received a new Forest Firefighting Vehicle on 8 September, at a ceremony held at the brigade's headquarters. This vehicle, a Renault model D14 CCR with 4x4 drive, 280 horsepower, 3000-litre water tank and 300 litres of foam concentrate, represents a significant reinforcement of rural fire prevention and combat resources in the municipality.

The total investment of the operation was 969,900 euros, covering the acquisition of four operational protection and rescue vehicles. Of this amount, 549 thousand euros were co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), through the ALGARVE 2030 Regional Programme, with the Municipality of Lagoa contributing 420,900 euros. In addition to the vehicle already delivered, a Forest Tactical Tanker Vehicle and two Light Firefighting Vehicles will also be acquired.

The mayor of Lagoa, Luís Encarnação, stated that the investment represents a commitment to people's safety and the protection of the territory, highlighting the fundamental mission of firefighters in protecting and assisting the population. The ceremony was also attended by the president of the Municipal Assembly, José Águas da Cruz, the president of the Humanitarian Association of Firefighters, Francisco Martins, and officials from CCDR Algarve.

This operation is part of a broader programme that finances 66 operational fire prevention and combat vehicles throughout the Algarve region, with a total investment exceeding 16.3 million euros and ERDF co-funding exceeding 9.1 million euros, through a partnership between municipalities, the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection, AMAL and the ALGARVE 2030 Regional Programme.
