A 49-year-old man was detained on suspicion of aggravated domestic violence and aggravated threats against his 82-year-old mother and his 52-year-old brother, in the municipality of Vila Viçosa, district of Évora. The Public Ministry reported that the suspect allegedly physically and psychologically assaulted both victims and threatened the mother with death.
According to the MP, the facts allegedly occurred last Monday, inside the victims' residence, in Bencatel, in the municipality of Vila Viçosa. The suspect allegedly threatened to kill the mother and adopted the same behavior against the brother, even using a kitchen knife.
The detention was carried out through warrants outside of flagrante delicto, after the MP determined the opening of an investigation the day after the alleged incident, given the risk of victimization assessed as "high/extreme". The detainee was brought before first judicial interrogation on Wednesday.
The Public Ministry promoted the application of the coercive measure of preventive detention, after confirming that the man suffers from a mental illness, a measure that was upheld by the judge. The investigations continue under the direction of the MP in Vila Viçosa, with support from the GNR.
