The Public Prosecutor's Office of Rio de Janeiro denounced the thirteen people involved in the death of cyclist Cláudio Rafael Landeiro, who was killed in the early morning of August 12 in Copacabana, in the South Zone of Rio. The victim was unjustly accused of having stolen a bicycle that, in fact, belonged to his sister. Cláudio had mental disorders and was beaten for six minutes.
Of the thirteen denounced, four are already in prison: Davi Santos Machado and Jorge Luiz Ricardo Dias, who worked as clandestine security guards; and Felipe Eduardo dos Santos Silva and Ailton José da Silva, who appear in the crime footage dressed as app delivery workers. A fifth involved remains at large. Wellington Luiz Santos de Souza was identified as the man who delivered a kick to the cyclist's head.
The Civil Police analyzed 12 hours of security camera footage to reconstruct the crime. Investigations continue to investigate the existence of an irregular private security scheme.
