The National Suicide Prevention Line, available through the number 1411, received approximately 25,600 calls during its first year of operation. Of this total, nearly 700 calls were related to situations of imminent suicide risk, representing a small but significant proportion of the total volume of contacts.
The service operates on a permanent basis, running 24 hours a day, every day of the week. This continuous availability allows it to respond to people in crisis at any time, regardless of the hour or day.
The line is staffed by approximately 70 health professionals, including clinical psychologists and mental health nurses. All of these professionals have specific training in suicidology, which enables them to handle delicate situations appropriately and provide specialized support to those who call.
