The Spanish Ministry of Health is preparing a royal decree to regulate the Mental Health Surveillance System, which will enable the availability of "homogeneous" information on the mental health of the population. The first specific instrument of this system will be a State Suicide Registry, as announced by Minister Mónica García at a press conference.
According to the latest available data, provisional and relating to 2025, 3,808 deaths by suicide were recorded in Spain. This number represents a decrease compared to 3,953 in 2024, 4,116 in 2023, and 4,227 in 2022.
If the provisional data is confirmed, this would mark the third consecutive year of decline, with a cumulative reduction of 419 deaths since 2022, representing a 9.9% decrease.
