The Chapel of Penha, in Portalegre, is currently under rehabilitation works. During the work on the chapel's old roof, several tiles that needed replacement were removed.
The Brotherhood of Our Lady of Penha, responsible for managing the religious building, decided to give a new use to these removed tiles. Instead of being simply discarded, the tiles are being made available to the local community.
The initiative aims to strengthen the involvement of residents and worshippers in the preservation of the chapel. The community is being called upon to support the project, being able to take a tile home as a form of participation and emotional connection with the building.
This approach not only allows for the reuse of historical materials but also creates a sense of belonging and shared responsibility for the conservation of this religious space in the city of Portalegre.
