Simon Stiell, the UN Climate Chief, warned that if humanity does not reduce fossil fuel pollution, the heat, fires and droughts of this summer will seem mild compared to a permanent climate nightmare.
The UN official said that Europe must lead the energy transition and that clean energy is the safe path for the future.
The warning comes in a context of extreme climate events recorded during the summer, including heat waves, wildfires and severe droughts in various regions of the world.
