The security officer of the British embassy in Moscow was detained by Russian authorities for alleged espionage for Ukraine. The man is suspected of collecting information about British embassy staff on behalf of the Ukrainian Security Service.
According to Russian authorities, the detainee was collecting personal data and photographs of staff, including information about home addresses, vehicles, meetings and trips made.
The case comes in a context of growing tensions between Russia and the United Kingdom, as well as between Russia and Ukraine, a country that Russia accuses of carrying out espionage operations on Russian territory.
