Aveiro: IP awards repairs of national roads affected by bad weather

NotíciasdeAveiro.pt10 September 2026 at 00:05

Infraestruturas de Portugal awarded at the beginning of this month a contract of 9.932 million euros to repair damage caused by severe weather in January and February 2026 on national roads in the northern area of the Aveiro district, covering the municipalities of Águeda, Albergaria-a-Velha, Sever do Vouga, Ovar and Castelo de Paiva, which were declared in a state of calamity by the Government.

According to IP, the succession of heavy rain events, without intermediate drying periods, significantly accelerated the evolution of existing pathologies in the road pavement network of that region. The works aim to restore adequate safety, regularity and functionality conditions of the roads, following the adverse weather phenomena recorded.

Planned interventions include punctual works with an average extension of about 4 kilometres, to be carried out on a network with a total extension of 150 kilometres. A new intervention is also planned on the EN1-IC2, at kilometre 238+900, at Marnel, in Águeda, where a global landslide of the embankment slope and the collapse of part of the road occurred in March 2024, to restore the cross-section and normal traffic conditions.
