Petrobras reached a historic record on its stock price this Wednesday, in a negative day for global financial markets. The common shares (PETR3) rose 0.85%, trading at R$ 53.69, while the preferred shares (PETR4) advanced 0.69%, reaching R$ 48.42. The upward movement followed the appreciation of oil in the international market.
Brent crude, the international benchmark, closed up 3.36%, quoted at US$ 101.21, the highest value since July 23. The appreciation of oil boosted the shares of the Brazilian state-owned company, which remains the most valuable in Latin America, with a market value of R$ 663 billion, equivalent to approximately US$ 128.3 billion.
Year-to-date, Petrobras shares show significant gains. The common shares appreciated 72.8%, while the preferred shares advanced 65.7%. The performance significantly surpasses the main index of the Brazilian stock exchange, the Ibovespa, which accumulated a gain of 15.2% in the same period.
The United States' attacks on Iranian oil tankers, in retaliation for the attack on ships of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, contributed to the rise in oil prices in the international market, directly benefiting Petrobras shares.
