Petrobras announced on Wednesday night that it will increase the gasoline sold to distributors by R$ 0.19. The average price will go to R$ 3.24 for distributors. The announcement comes on the heels of the expansion of the gasoline subsidy announced by the federal government during the afternoon.
The government stopped providing the R$ 0.44 per liter gasoline subsidy, going to implement a subsidy of R$ 0.63. The difference between the two values is exactly R$ 0.19, the same value as the increase announced by Petrobras.
With this change, the additional amount charged by the state-owned company will be annulled by the increase in the government subsidy. Thus, in practice, the final price of the fuel should not change for the consumer.
