The Lisbon City Council was ordered by the Administrative Court to pay a fine of 463 thousand euros in the case known as Russiagate. The amount represents almost half a million euros, after discounting infractions that had already expired.
The process involves alleged attempts at foreign influence on social media during the 2021 local election campaign, with suspicions of links to Russians. The Lisbon city hall was found responsible for failures in the protection of personal data of citizens.
The defense of the Lisbon City Council has already stated that the process "has not yet ended," suggesting it intends to appeal the decision. The lawyer representing the National Data Protection Commission noted that only an "accounting error" could reduce the amount now decided.
